Creating Trial Balance using Pivot Table operation page 53

12. Click "Next".

13. A dialog titled "PivotTable and PivotChart wizard Step 3 of 3" will appear.

14. Under the label "Where do you want to put your report", select "New worksheet".

15. Click Finish.

16. A Trial Balance report will be presented in a new sheet.

17. If you see the label Count of value, double-click on that phrase. A list will appear. Select Sum. The phrase Count of value will change to Sum of value. (We select Sum because we want to Sum instead of Count the data). If you see label Sum of value, then do nothing.

18. The Trial Balance is ready.

Usually we use the result of this operation to compare it with the Trial Balance in sheet TB.

NOTE: With this PivotTable method, we are unable to link the Trial Balance to the Balance Sheet or Profit & Loss statement. In other words, the Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss report cannot be updated from here, but Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss report can be updated from the formula method.

A sample Trial Balance constructed using the PivotTable operation is shown below. In your own results, you should check that the total figure at the bottom of the report is 0 (zero) indicating a balance Trial Balance.
